Cancun, Quintana Roo — Authorities are investigating after human remains were discovered on a dirt road in Cancun, triggering a large security response.

Passersby alerted officials after spotting what appeared to be human body parts abandoned at the site, according to preliminary reports.

Police officers and specialized personnel arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and began collecting evidence. Forensic experts and investigators processed the site, and the remains were taken to the medical examiner’s office for analysis and identification.

The victim has not been identified, and investigations continue to determine the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible.
