Tulum, Quintana Roo — A man was wounded in a shooting Tuesday in an irregular settlement in Tulum, prompting a large emergency response.

The attack occurred on Calle Mercurio between Centauro and Orión Sur streets, according to preliminary reports. Neighbors called emergency services after hearing multiple gunshots.

Paramedics arrived and provided pre-hospital care to the victim, who had gunshot wounds. He was initially taken to the IMSS-Bienestar hospital in Tulum, but family members said he did not receive treatment there and was later transferred to the General Hospital of Playa del Carmen under yellow code, indicating a serious but stable condition requiring continuous monitoring.

Municipal police, state police, and agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office deployed a security operation in the area. Investigators cordoned off the scene to collect ballistic evidence as part of the investigation.

Authorities have not reported any arrests or provided an official update on the victim’s condition. The motive for the attack remains under investigation.
