Playa del Carmen Opens Registration for Audiovisual Workshops

Young people learning to produce video and audio content during an audiovisual workshop in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Residents here can now register for a series of audiovisual workshops aimed at building skills in creativity, art and technology, and teaching participants how to produce, create and tell stories.

The program is run through the FARO arts and trades school, part of the Mexican Social Welfare Department, which awarded a grant to support artists who will in turn guide young people and adults. Cultural agent Raquel Portocarrero said the goal is to teach participants to capture reality and tell true stories.

In an interview, she said the project begins in November with four workshops:

  • Design It With Your Cellphone — participants learn to create visual content using only a mobile device.
  • Podcast — giving ideas a voice and learning to produce audio.
  • Stop Motion — using clay figures to build frame-by-frame animation, aimed at children.
  • Documentary Film — capturing reality and telling real stories.

Portocarrero said the instructors leading the sessions each have more than 10 years of teaching experience.

She acknowledged that the FARO school is still under construction because of the size of the site, but said it will be inaugurated in November. Because the school is so new, few people have come forward to enroll, prompting her to issue an open invitation. She also noted that the international organization Save the Children is supporting the project.

Those interested can register on the SONOLUX platform at talleres-faro.foracc26.bienestatqr.com and then send proof of registration to 998 939 53 64, including their full name and the workshop or workshops they wish to join.
