Cozumel to Host Second Free Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Clinic for Pets

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Cozumel congressman Renán Sánchez Tajonar has announced a second edition of the Huellitas animal welfare drive, offering free rabies vaccinations and microchips for dogs and cats.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 19, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Domo in Emiliano Zapata Park.

“At the first drive we treated more than 300 pets and confirmed that Cozumel families are looking for more spaces to protect their health and well-being,” Sánchez Tajonar said. “That is why we are returning with a second edition, because caring for our animals also means caring for the health of the whole community.”

During the first Huellitas drive, pets received the rabies vaccine, a microchip and registration. Participation exceeded expectations, and families were still waiting for services when the scheduled hours ended.

“What happened afterward was even clearer: families began writing to us asking for another date. This second drive did not come from a desk — it came from listening to Cozumel families,” Sánchez Tajonar said.

How to Register

Residents must sign up between September 9 and Thursday, September 17 at huellitascozumel.vercel.app. Participants enter their personal details, register their pet’s information and select the service they need.

People without internet access, or those who need help completing the process, can visit the Casa de Gestión y Atención Ciudadana on Avenida 65, between Calle 15 and Calle 17 in the Maravilla neighborhood, where staff will assist them.

“The way a community treats those who cannot speak says a lot about it. In Cozumel we love and care for our animals; our job is to make things easier for the families who look after their well-being every day,” Sánchez Tajonar said.
