Mexico City — Yucatán secured third place nationally in the 2026 Children’s Rights Knowledge Tournament, organized by the National DIF System, with the state delegation earning recognition for its preparation, teamwork, and understanding of children’s rights.

The finals took place in Mexico City, where nine representatives from Yucatán competed in a national quiz on human rights, culture, and participation, along with recreational activities focused on mental agility and critical thinking.

Wendy Méndez Naal, honorary president of DIF Yucatán, accompanied the delegation alongside DIF Yucatán Director General Shirley Castillo Sánchez. Méndez Naal praised the participants’ effort and dedication, noting that such experiences build confidence and development by allowing children and adolescents to act as rights promoters in their communities.

She emphasized that the work aligns with Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena’s commitment to placing children and adolescents at the center of public policy and creating more opportunities for their comprehensive development.

During the national event, Yucatán also took part in the “Party for Children’s Rights” with a booth called “Goal for the Rights of Children and Adolescents,” featuring ball games, skill challenges, and a lottery focused on promoting children’s rights. These activities, designed for different age groups, encouraged participation, learning, and coexistence using play as a tool to bring children’s rights to a wider audience.

DIF Yucatán also recognized representatives from the municipality of Tekax, who won first place nationally in the 2026 Decorated Ball Contest, a National DIF initiative promoting creativity, cultural identity, and family togetherness. The winning design, titled “Báaxal Yéetel Puksi’ik’al” (Playing with Heart), was created by Flor de Luz Quiñones Martín, María del Rosario Salazar May, and Cinthia Martín Segovia, incorporating traditional elements and collaborative work to reflect Yucatán’s pride and roots.
