Machete attack injures worker during Cancún robbery

A worker returning home after finishing his work shift was the victim of a robbery during the early hours of Monday in Cancún’s Region 249, specifically in the Cielo Nuevo neighborhood.

According to the report made to authorities, the incident occurred when the man arrived at his home and was preparing to open the access gate. At that moment, an individual approached from behind with the intention of robbing him of his belongings. Upon noticing the situation, the victim attempted to resist, which led to a direct assault.

The alleged robber pulled out a machete and attacked the worker, causing a wound to his head of approximately 12 centimeters. After the assault, the victim fell to the ground, remaining immobilized while the aggressor fled the scene.

Neighbors in the area alerted emergency services, so State Police officers went to the site to take note of the facts and request medical support. Minutes later, a Civil Protection ambulance arrived at the neighborhood, where personnel provided pre-hospital care to the injured man.

Subsequently, the worker was transported to a nearby hospital to receive specialized medical attention. No official information has been released at this time regarding his health status.

During the development of the operation, the victim’s wife was at the location and suffered a nervous crisis, so she was also attended to by emergency personnel and transported to a hospital for evaluation. Neighbors in the neighborhood provided support to the family while the corresponding procedures were carried out.

Despite a search operation being implemented in the area, the location and detention of the aggressor was not achieved. Preliminary information indicates that the robber managed to take the worker’s belongings, leaving only the headphones he was using to listen to music, which allegedly prevented him from noticing the attacker’s proximity.

Authorities continue with investigations to clarify the incident and identify the responsible party.
