Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Unknown assailants opened fire on a Dominican man’s pickup truck outside a bar in the city center late Tuesday, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
The shooting occurred on Avenida 40, between Calles 2 Bis and 4, outside the Acuario bar in the Centro neighborhood. Witnesses did not see who fired the shots.
Municipal police officers and Mexican Army personnel responded, cordoning off the area and searching for the perpetrators without success.
A white Toyota Hilux sustained eight gunshot wounds. The vehicle belongs to a man from the Dominican Republic who had reportedly received threats previously. A second vehicle was struck twice by gunfire, but officials believe it was collateral damage.
