Cancun, Quintana Roo — Women lead 42% of economic establishments in Quintana Roo, a figure that reflects the growing participation of women in the state’s economy, according to state officials.
Esther Burgos Jimenez, head of the Quintana Roo Women’s Secretariat, highlighted the statistic during a forum in Cancun focused on innovation, technology, and female entrepreneurship. She recognized the daily efforts of women who have carved out a place in various productive sectors.
Burgos said that behind each business lies a story of perseverance and resilience, as many women face double shifts by combining household responsibilities with running their businesses, whether through social media, small shops, or family enterprises.
She noted that strengthening female entrepreneurship represents more than just a source of income; it also allows women to achieve economic independence, security, and new opportunities for personal and professional development.
The official said the state government, led by Governor Mara Lezama, prioritizes support for women entrepreneurs through training programs, technological tools, and commercial promotion strategies.
In that context, she highlighted the “Mujeres Emprendedoras” (Women Entrepreneurs) program, which organizes bazaars and digital initiatives to expand the reach of women-led businesses. A special edition of the bazaar was held during the event, where dozens of participants displayed and sold products and services.
Burgos also acknowledged the participation of businesswomen and specialists from the technology and financial sectors, who shared success stories to motivate more women to consolidate their projects.
