Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A woman shot Monday afternoon in the Las Torres neighborhood died after being rushed to the General Hospital of Playa del Carmen.
According to unofficial reports, she was undergoing surgery for a gunshot wound to the head when she died at about 2 p.m.
The killing is the latest in an informal settlement that has seen multiple violent incidents in recent years.
The attack took place around noon, carried out by suspects who were apparently traveling in a pickup truck. After receiving the report, officers with the Municipal Public Security Department launched an air and ground operation to find those responsible.
Authorities have not reported any arrests in connection with the shooting. State investigators are leading the inquiry to determine a motive.
