Cancun, Quintana Roo — A strike at Canadian airline WestJet that lasted just over 24 hours forced the cancellation of 12 flights to and from Cancun, with seven flights grounded on Sunday and five more on Monday.
The walkout by WestJet workers began Sunday and led to nearly 500 flight cancellations across the airline’s network that day alone. On Monday, WestJet announced a tentative agreement to end the strike, but not before additional cancellations were recorded.
ASUR, the company that operates Cancun International Airport, said seven flights were canceled at the airport on Sunday and another five on Monday.
Almost all passengers who were scheduled to return to Canada were rebooked on other flights, and only a few required assistance from Quintana Roo state authorities, the airport operator added.
