Police operation in Cozumel leads to drug arrest

Cozumel, Mexico — A woman identified as Alicia “N” was arrested for her alleged involvement in crimes against health during a preventive surveillance operation conducted by Cozumel municipal police officers.

According to official information, the detainee is allegedly linked to the purchase and sale of illicit substances in small quantities on the island.

The incident occurred while officers were conducting crime prevention patrols and observed a female person on a scooter handling a plastic bag containing white powder with characteristics similar to cocaine.

The intervention took place on General Felipe Ángeles Avenue, between 3 Sur Street and José María Morelos Street, in the Adolfo López Mateos neighborhood, where police officers proceeded to explain the reason for the stop and conducted a preventive search in accordance with established protocols.

As a result of the inspection, authorities secured a plastic bag measuring approximately 12 by 7 centimeters and five transparent bags measuring 3.5 by 2.5 centimeters, all containing white powder similar to cocaine, along with 140 pesos in cash and a black Vento Cross-type motorcycle that did not have license plates.

The detained woman, along with the secured evidence, was placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), which will be responsible for compiling the corresponding investigation file to determine her legal status.
