Playa del Carmen Mayor Boosts Diplomatic Ties with US for Tourism Growth

Estefanía Mercado, the Municipal President of Solidaridad, recently convened a meeting with Justen Thomas, the General Consul and Principal Officer of the United States in Mérida, Yucatán. The primary objective of this meeting was to bolster international and diplomatic ties, with the ultimate goal of attracting more American tourists to Playa del Carmen.

Mercado emphasized the significance of this meeting with the American diplomat. She highlighted the strategies currently being implemented in local administration, particularly in areas such as visitor services, security, and economic development of the municipality.

During the meeting, discussions were held about the municipal government's plans to encourage the sale of local products in the United States. They also touched on the potential for fostering sister city relationships with American cities. These partnerships would serve to enhance cultural exchange, tourism, and economic growth.
