US Fugitive Wanted for Child Sexual Abuse Arrested in Tulum
Tulum, Quintana Roo — Mexican authorities arrested a U.S. citizen wanted on charges of sexual assault against a minor, officials announced Thursday.
Omar “N” was taken into custody on Avenida Parque Tulum by state investigators and federal agents from the Security and Protection Secretariat’s transnational crime unit. The arrest followed intelligence work based on a tip-off.
When approached, the suspect appeared nervous and evasive, and could not produce identification. A records check confirmed an active arrest warrant from Texas for sexual assault of a minor, as well as additional charges related to drug possession in the United States.
After his detention, immigration authorities determined Omar “N” could not prove legal residency in Mexico. He was handed over to the National Immigration Institute, which will begin extradition proceedings to the United States.
The operation was part of ongoing cooperation between Mexican and U.S. law enforcement agencies to locate fugitives abroad.
