Last year in Playa del Carmen, a significant incident occurred. A law student endured harassment from a fellow student for almost four years. Due to the lack of response to her complaint within the local faculty, the students took matters into their own hands. They initiated a series of protests and even filed a criminal complaint.
The authorities stated, "The establishment of these protocols is encouraged at both federal and state levels. This is a significant step forward for the country and the Ministry of Education. It is an issue that we are obliged to fight against."
The case was ultimately resolved in the victim's favor and the accused harasser was suspended. This incident has set a precedent, encouraging more reporting of such incidents and thus helping to prevent further cases.
