Two Men Survive Fiery Rollover Crash on Federal Highway 307 Near Bacalar

A compact car lies upside down on its roof after a rollover accident on Federal Highway 307 near Bacalar, Quintana Roo.

Bacalar, Quintana Roo — Two men survived a dramatic rollover crash Saturday morning on Federal Highway 307, the Chetumal–Felipe Carrillo Puerto stretch, after their compact car left the roadway and flipped several times, landing upside down.

The accident occurred near the junction with Federal Highway 293, known as the Vía Corta a Mérida. Authorities said the driver lost control due to excessive speed, causing the vehicle to veer off the asphalt and hit uneven terrain. The momentum sent the car into the brush, where it rolled over and came to rest on its roof with its wheels in the air.

Officers from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSC) patrolling the area were first on the scene. They found both occupants had managed to exit the wreckage on their own and were lying on the grass nearby, complaining of pain and showing visible injuries.

Police immediately requested medical assistance. Paramedics treated the men for multiple contusions and possible fractures before transporting them to a hospital for further care. Officers blocked off the highway to warn other drivers while the severely damaged vehicle was later towed to an impound lot.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
