Cancún, Quintana Roo — Two men have been sentenced to 37 years in prison for the 2021 murder of a former police commander in this popular tourist destination.
The State Prosecutor’s Office announced that Alfonso Madrigal Uitzil, known as “Choche,” and Felipe de Jesús Arévalo de la Cruz, known as “Dedos,” were found guilty of aggravated homicide following evidence presented during their trial.
According to investigators, the crime occurred on February 12, 2021, when the two men kidnapped the victim at gunpoint. They transported the former commander in a white van to a safe house in Supermanzana 232, where they held him captive for several days.
During that time, the victim was subjected to torture. In the early hours of February 15, additional individuals arrived at the property, and one of them ordered the execution of the former police official.
Forensic analysis determined the man died from hypovolemic shock resulting from dismemberment. After committing the murder, the perpetrators placed the body in bags and abandoned them in Cancún’s Supermanzana 76.
In addition to the prison sentences, the judge ordered the convicted men to pay a fine of 201,645 pesos and 717,002 pesos in material damages.
