Two Men Sentenced to 25 Years for Murder in Chetumal
Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A court has sentenced two men to 25 years in prison for the murder of a political party activist in Chetumal, state prosecutors announced Monday.
Edwin Gustavo Juárez Borges, known as “Bobitas,” and Fredy Ismael Tamay Salazar, alias “Topo,” were found guilty of aggravated homicide in the March 21, 2024 killing.
According to the State Prosecutor’s Office, Tamay Salazar lured the victim outside his home in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood by calling him out. While the victim was distracted, Juárez Borges approached from behind and stabbed him in the back and chest, causing internal bleeding that led to his death.
After the attack, the two men drove a red Chevrolet Aveo to an abandoned hotel on Marciano Street, where they left the vehicle before fleeing.
Prosecutor Raciel López Salazar said the murder was politically motivated, as the victim was a member of a political party.
During the week of May 11–17, the prosecutor’s office obtained 63 indictments, executed 42 arrest warrants and 10 search warrants, and secured eight convictions in oral trials, López Salazar added.
