Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — A joint operation by federal and state security forces led to the arrest of two men suspected of drug dealing and other crimes in the mainland zone of Isla Mujeres, officials said.
The arrests occurred on Punta Sam highway in the Costa Mujeres area. Officers from the State Public Security Department, working with the Mexican Navy, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard, spotted two men allegedly exchanging bags of dried plant material resembling marijuana.
Agents approached the parking lot of a convenience store next to a gas station and detained the suspects, identified as Florencio “N” and Eduardo Javier “N.”
According to authorities, the two men are linked to a group involved in extortion, drug distribution, and firearm use in the mainland zone of the municipality.
During a search, officers seized two eco-friendly bags containing 88 small bags of dried green plant material resembling marijuana, and 76 wrappers with transparent solid fragments consistent with crystal methamphetamine.
They also confiscated 32 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, two cell phones, and a red Toyota Avanza with Quintana Roo plates marked “Platinum Service.”
The two suspects were handed over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Drug Dealing, which will continue the investigation and determine their legal status.
