Free Mammograms Offered in Three Quintana Roo Municipalities

A mobile mammography unit set up at a Bienestar community center in Quintana Roo during a free breast cancer screening drive

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Women in Tulum, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres can receive free mammograms from October 19 to 23 as part of a traveling screening drive run by the Quintana Roo Bienestar Secretariat, which aims to bring breast cancer prevention and early detection services closer to residents.

Where and when the screenings will take place

The program opened on Monday, October 19, at the Bienestar Unit in Tulum, located on Calle Osiris Sur between Gama Oriente and Asteroide Oriente. Screenings will continue at that site on Tuesday, October 20.

The mammography unit then moves to Puerto Morelos on Wednesday, October 21 and Thursday, October 22. Women there should go to the Bienestar Unit on Avenida Joaquín Zetina Gasca, Supermanzana 18, manzana 10, lote 5, in the Línea de Alta Tensión area.

Isla Mujeres will host the final day of the campaign on Friday, October 23, at the Bienestar Unit on Avenida Gastón Alegre, number 12, Colonia Cristiana, across from the Padre Pío sanctuary.

Hours and eligibility

All three sites will operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the schedule released by the state agency. The mammograms are free of charge.

To be screened, women must be between 40 and 69 years old and bring a photocopy of a current official photo ID (INE) and a photocopy of an up-to-date CURP, Mexico’s national population registry document. Patients are also asked to arrive without deodorant, lotion or perfume.

Early detection emphasized

The Bienestar Secretariat promotes the traveling clinics as a way to expand access to preventive care for women across Quintana Roo. Officials stressed that early detection is key to identifying possible abnormalities and allowing for prompt medical treatment, and encouraged women to check the dates and locations and arrive with the required documents.
