Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — A Mexican Navy rescue team evacuated a woman from a cruise ship off the coast of Isla Mujeres after she suffered septic shock, the Fifth Naval Region command reported.
The evacuation was launched after the vessel sent an emergency call requesting the medical transfer of a female passenger who had gone into septic shock.
Officials ordered the Naval Station for Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance (ENSAR) in Isla Mujeres to immediately deploy a Defender-class vessel with naval medical personnel on board to protect life at sea.
Once the boat reached the emergency location, the crew checked on the woman and carried out the evacuation. She was taken to Puerto Juárez, where a private ambulance was waiting to drive her to a hospital in Cancún for specialized medical treatment.
