Exchange Program: What Can Be Turned In and Why It Matters
Children will have the opportunity to exchange war-related toys—such as guns, swords, or violent video games—for educational and non-violent alternatives. Adults, meanwhile, can anonymously surrender firearms, ammunition, or explosives in exchange for a financial incentive provided by SEDENA.
Adrián Martínez Ortega, head of SESESC, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the New Agreement for Well-Being and Development in Quintana Roo. He stressed that security is a shared responsibility between government and society, requiring actions that protect integrity and promote values among children.
The program underscores Tulum’s commitment to reducing violence by addressing its roots in childhood and encouraging community participation in disarmament efforts.
