Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Tren Maya railway project will promote and sell its standard vacation packages during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, aiming to draw both domestic and international tourists to explore destinations across southeastern Mexico.
Tourism officials said the goal is to boost visitor numbers during the tournament by offering all-inclusive deals that cover flights, accommodation, train transfers, cultural tours, and gastronomic experiences at several iconic sites in the region.
One featured package, called “Seas and Lagoons,” runs from June 20 to 23 and includes visits to Tulum, Bacalar, and Chetumal, with prices starting at 19,717 Mexican pesos (about $1,100). The itinerary combines beaches, lagoons, and natural attractions with the experience of traveling aboard the railway system.
A second edition of “Seas and Lagoons” will be available from July 4 to 7, also covering Tulum, Bacalar, and Chetumal, with prices from 15,993 pesos (about $890). This option targets tourists interested in exploring the southern part of the state and enjoying ecotourism and regional heritage activities.
Another offering, “Land of the Jaguar,” is scheduled for July 9 to 12 and will take in Tulum, Chichén Itzá, and Mérida, with costs starting at 15,938 pesos (about $890). The tour includes archaeological, historical, and cultural experiences at some of the region’s most significant sites.
The “Essence Maya” circuit, running from July 19 to 27, offers a broader exploration of Maya culture, cuisine, and traditions, with prices from 39,368 pesos (about $2,200).
According to projections from tourism and event organizers, Mexico could receive more than 5.5 million visitors during the World Cup, one of the largest tourist influxes in recent years. Quintana Roo aims to capture about 30% of that traffic, leveraging its air connectivity, hotel infrastructure, and established attractions such as Cancún, the Riviera Maya, and Tulum.
Mexico will host 13 World Cup matches, including the opening ceremony at Mexico City’s Estadio Ciudad de México, one of the most-watched sporting events globally.
