Cancún, Quintana Roo — Tim Hortons opened its first store in Cancún on Friday, launching an expansion plan that calls for 45 locations across the state of Quintana Roo.

Juan José Gutiérrez, president of Tim Hortons México, said the company expects to open about one new store per month in the state. The next location will be at Plaza Las Américas, with additional outlets planned elsewhere in Quintana Roo.

The growth will focus primarily on the Cancún-Tulum corridor, which the company considers one of its highest-potential markets in the region.

Each location represents an investment of roughly US$1 million, Gutiérrez said. The stores will come in several formats, including freestanding locations, drive-thru units and outlets set up through partnerships with gas stations and supermarkets.

The move into Cancún also reflects the city’s large Canadian community and its presence across other destinations in the Yucatán Peninsula. Gutiérrez said the company aims to serve both Canadian visitors and Mexican customers, who he said have responded positively since Tim Hortons entered the Mexican market, particularly in Yucatán.

The company estimates that each store will create about 30 jobs, mostly for young people. Gutiérrez noted that some employees starting in operational roles have moved up to higher-responsibility positions within the organization.

The Cancún opening is part of a national growth push. Tim Hortons said it plans to maintain an average of two openings per week across Mexico this month.

The new Cancún branch will operate 24 hours a day, according to company officials at the opening.
