Police officers cordon off the parking area outside a pharmacy in Cancun where a teenager died.

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A 13-year-old boy died outside a pharmacy in Cancun on Thursday evening while his mother was inside buying medication for him, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. at a Similares pharmacy located on Arco Vial, near the entrance of the Villas Lakin residential complex in Supermanzana 258.

According to preliminary reports, the teenager, who had diabetes, began feeling unwell. His mother took him to the pharmacy, but he collapsed and lost consciousness at the entrance. She called emergency services.

Private paramedics arrived and found the boy had already died. His body was covered with a blue surgical sheet in the parking area.

Officers from the Municipal Secretariat of Public Security and Transit cordoned off the parking lot. The family remained at the scene waiting for investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) to arrive and carry out the necessary procedures.

The incident drew the attention of neighbors and passing motorists.
