Cancun, Quintana Roo — Authorities have arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with the murder of a store manager in the Residencial Arbolada neighborhood, the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday.
The suspect, identified as Mauricio Raúl “N,” a Mexico City native, is accused of killing Enrique, 59, inside his home on Enebro Street on June 5. The victim, a manager at a commercial store, died from multiple stab wounds.
Investigators said the suspect, who was the victim’s neighbor, had recently built a friendship with him while walking their dogs. Prosecutors allege Mauricio Raúl planned the robbery to pay off personal debts, targeting the victim’s documents and high-end vehicle.
On the day of the murder, the two men were together at the victim’s home when an argument broke out. The suspect grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Enrique multiple times in the chest, killing him instantly, according to the prosecutor’s office.
After the killing, the suspect stole televisions, drills, a laptop, and a hydraulic jack, which he later pawned. He also burned the clothes he wore during the crime. However, investigators said biological evidence left at the scene led to his identification.
The arrest was carried out June 7 on Avenida Bonampak. At the time of his detention, officers also seized illicit drugs, leading to additional charges for drug dealing. A gray Honda City with Quintana Roo plates was impounded.
State Prosecutor Raciel López Salazar credited the quick arrest to coordinated investigative work by the Investigative Police and the Public Security Department, including field, office, and technological analysis.
The suspect remains in custody while the prosecutor’s office continues its investigation.
