Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A vehicle struck and killed a man on Playa del Carmen Boulevard on Sunday, Sept. 6, the second pedestrian death on the road in less than 24 hours.
The crash happened shortly before 10 p.m. on the Cancún-bound side of the boulevard near Avenida 28 de Julio and a gas station. The man was crossing from the central median toward the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood when he was hit and thrown several meters onto the pavement.
Paramedics responded to a 911 call, treated the injured man, and took him to a hospital, where he died minutes after being admitted.
On Saturday, Sept. 5, just after 11 p.m., a Nissan Tsuru struck and killed a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the same boulevard at Calle 4 without paying attention to traffic.
Municipal police, traffic officers, and paramedics arrived at the scene, where the victim was pronounced dead. The driver of the Tsuru was detained and turned over to authorities. The body was taken to the forensic medical service for an autopsy.
