Cancun, Quintana Roo — An exhibition featuring 43 drawings, prints and paintings by renowned Japanese-Mexican artist Shinzaburo Takeda will open in Cancun on July 15, offering free admission to the public.
Takeda, born in Seto, Japan in 1935, moved to Mexico in 1963 drawn by his fascination with muralism. Although he trained at the prestigious Tokyo University of the Arts, he found his spiritual and creative home in Oaxaca, where he settled in the late 1970s. There he taught and mentored generations of artists, helping to establish the internationally recognized Oaxaca Graphic Arts School. His work blends rigorous Japanese technique with the worldview, traditions and mystical richness of Mexico.
This is not Takeda’s first exhibition in Quintana Roo. In 2021, he presented “Corazón Migratorio” at the Museum of the Island of Cozumel, followed by “En el Espejo del Mar” at the same venue. Now, his work moves to Cancun.
The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, July 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Núcleo Yaxil exhibition halls inside the Centro Cultural de las Artes, next to the Teatro de la Ciudad. The exhibition will run through August 15. Admission is free.
