San Luis Potosí, Mexico — Quintana Roo made history at the CONADE 2026 National Olympics by winning its first-ever national team title in chess, officials announced.
The state delegation earned seven medals — five gold and two silver — to secure the championship in the discipline, held in San Luis Potosí.
Jacobo Arzate Hop, head of the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (CODEQ), said the achievement reflects the state’s commitment to strengthening sports and athlete development.
Levi Kalani Shines with Seven Medals
The standout performer was Levi Kalani Alexander Fogo Esquivel, a chess player from Tulum who won all seven of Quintana Roo’s medals.
He claimed gold in Classical Chess, as well as in Rapid Play (mixed and men’s categories) and Blitz (mixed and men’s categories). He also earned two silver medals in the 25+5 and 10+5 rapid formats for ages 13 to 16.
Growing Medal Count
Other Quintana Roo competitors recognized at the event included Yareni Sofía Espinoza Ávila, Camila Isabella Kelly Cruz, Vanya Olive de Dios, Valeria García Gómez, and Ferrán Roera Fregoso.
With these results, Quintana Roo has now accumulated 44 gold medals in the overall CONADE 2026 medal table, positioning itself as one of Mexico’s most competitive delegations.
