Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Cozumel is ready to host the ninth edition of the MayanMan Triathlon on July 26, an event expected to draw thousands of athletes and spectators, kicking off the island’s sports tourism season and reinforcing its status as the sports capital of the Mexican Caribbean.

Officials announced the event at a press conference, highlighting that this will be the fifth time Cozumel has hosted the triathlon out of nine editions held in Quintana Roo. The island has been on the international sports map since hosting its first Ironman in 2009.

Elias Farah Ceh, director of Tourism and Economic Development, said the triathlon marks the start of the 2026 sports tourism calendar. Authorities estimate between 1,500 and 2,000 visitors will arrive, generating significant economic impact through lodging, food, and transportation.

Genaro Gomez Montiel, general director of the MayanMan Triathlon, said the race will start at Chankanaab Park, praising its natural conditions for the swimming leg. The event includes swimming, cycling, and running with Super Sprint, Sprint, Olympic, and Half categories, limited to 1,000 athletes.

The MayanMan Triathlon began in Tulum in 2017 before moving to Cozumel, where organizers found better conditions for growth. The island’s crystal-clear waters and ideal terrain for cycling and running have helped the competition gain prestige and recognition as a leading regional sports tourism event.
