Quintana Roo Smashes Records with 6.8 Million Cruise Passengers in 2024

Quintana Roo concluded 2024 by welcoming a total of 6.6 million cruise tourists. This figure accounts for 68.6% of the 9.9 million cruise visitors to Mexico that year. This achievement solidifies the state's two ports as the most significant in the country.

Mahahual ended 2024 with a record 2.2 million cruise passengers, marking a 22% increase from the 18 million it attracted in 2023. This is the highest number in its history.

Cozumel confirmed the arrival of 4.6 million cruise passengers, setting a new record for the island. This number surpasses even the pre-2019 pandemic figures. In 2024, Cozumel exceeded its pre-pandemic records for the first time, growing by 1.17% compared to the 4.5 million cruise passengers it attracted in the year before the global health crisis. These figures establish Cozumel as the leading cruise destination in the Caribbean.

Royal Caribbean is currently seeking permits to introduce the Perfect Day Mexico concept in Mahahual. This concept involves an exclusive 90-hectare tourist development for tourists disembarking from their cruises in southern Quintana Roo. The development will mirror the Perfect Day Coco Kay development that the cruise company already operates on a private island in the Bahamas. This includes exclusive amenities such as slides, international restaurants, infinity pools, and adults-only areas.

Royal Caribbean anticipates that this project will increase the number of visitors to the port of Mahahual from the current 2 million to 5 million by 2030.
