Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama launched a mobile application on Friday aimed at preventing child trafficking and sexual exploitation in digital and tourism environments.
The app, called “En búsqueda de tu identidad virtual” (In Search of Your Virtual Identity), was presented at the Kuchil Baxal gymnasium in Cancún alongside ECPAT Mexico, an organization dedicated to ending child exploitation. The event drew more than 1,000 students, teachers, and parents from local secondary schools.
The platform provides tools to help children and teenagers reflect on online risks, including social media and video games, and identify potential predators. Lezama warned about the dangers of normalizing violence and urged young people to download the app to recognize warning signs.
According to the Quintana Roo Education Department, more than 74,000 students have already used the app, which features a mascot named Kuxal, an axolotl symbolizing life and digital prevention.
The initiative was supported by the state education department, the DIF (state family welfare agency), and RIU Hotels & Resorts, which reiterated their commitment to combating what officials described as a growing problem in digital spaces.
