Cuban Man Arrested in Playa del Carmen Over Cancún Fatal Shooting

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Investigators have arrested a 38-year-old Cuban national suspected of setting up a fatal shooting in Cancún earlier this month, Quintana Roo Attorney General Raciel López Salazar said.

The suspect, identified as Julian Andrean N, was detained in Playa del Carmen on an arrest warrant for qualified homicide and attempted homicide, according to the State Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities accuse him of playing a role in a Sept. 4 attack in Cancún that left one man dead and two others wounded by gunfire.

How the Attack Unfolded

According to the investigation, the suspect summoned Daisy Cecilia N and José Guadalupe N to a property in Cancún’s Región 246 neighborhood, telling them he would hand over the keys to a house he had rented to them.

When the pair arrived with Pastor N, prosecutors said, an armed man confronted them with a 9-millimeter pistol and opened fire.

Pastor died at the scene. Daisy Cecilia and José Guadalupe were struck in the thorax but managed to leave the property and were later taken to a Cancún hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

Arrest Followed Investigation

Officers with the State Prosecutor’s Office’s Investigation Police tracked the suspect to Playa del Carmen as part of the investigation opened after the attack.

He has been handed over to the judicial authority handling the case, which will determine his legal status as the proceedings move forward.
