Quintana Roo, Mexico — Quintana Roo continues to strengthen its global tourism leadership by achieving a new record in air operations, with 771 flights registered in a single day across its four international airports. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa reported this, highlighting the successful year-end for the Mexican Caribbean.
What Happened?
The governor recalled that just on December 20, the state had reached a previous record with 766 operations; subsequently, 765 flights were reported on December 28, 2024, 760 on January 4, 2025, and 752 on March 15, 2025, figures that demonstrate sustained growth in the tourism sector.
This increase, Lezama explained, reflects the confidence of millions of travelers, who choose the state’s 12 tourist destinations as one of the preferred places for the December holidays.
Why Did Air Traffic Increase?
According to the governor, the increase in flights responds to key factors:
- Reinforced air connectivity
- World-class tourism infrastructure
- Diversity of experiences available throughout the Mexican Caribbean
Additionally, she highlighted the coordinated work between the three levels of government, the tourism sector, and local communities. An example of this is the rapid growth of the Maya Kaan destination, which is positioning itself as a new, expanding ecotourism option.
What’s Next for Tourism in Quintana Roo?
Mara Lezama assured that the so-called New Era of Tourism, driven by a humanist approach with a feminist heart, aims for the economic spillover generated by tourism to reach all households and help reduce inequality gaps.
With these historic results, she affirmed that Quintana Roo reaffirms its role as Mexico’s tourism engine, advancing toward an inclusive and sustainable future: “We are not only breaking records, we are building tourism with benefits for everyone,” she emphasized.
