The Mexican Navy, under the Secretariat of Marine, has initiated the Marina Plan's Prevention Phase in response to Tropical Storm Sara. The plan is in effect in the municipalities of Othón P. Blanco, Bacalar, and Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The goal is to protect the local population and minimize potential damage from the storm. As per the latest update, Sara is producing northeast and east winds of 15 to 20 knots, gusting up to 35 knots, and generating waves of 8 to 10 feet in central Quintana Roo and the northwest Caribbean Sea. Authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and follow official updates.
The Marina Plan's prevention phase encompasses measures to protect lives, property, public services, and the environment. The Mexican Navy is also coordinating with Civil Protection and the Puerto Captains in Chetumal, Mahahual, and Xcalak to ensure maritime safety and implement timely port closures if necessary. The Seventeenth Naval Zone has mobilized 350 personnel, vessels, aircraft, and specialized vehicles to assist civilians. These resources stand ready to respond to emergencies resulting from the storm.
The Secretariat of Marine has established telephone lines and email addresses for assistance requests. Residents can dial 800 MARINA 1 (800 627 4621) or directly contact the naval zones in Chetumal, Isla Mujeres, and Cozumel. By implementing these measures, the Mexican Navy reaffirms its commitment to protecting Mexican families and mitigating the impacts of Tropical Storm Sara.
