Puerto Morelos Calls for Fireworks-Free New Year Celebrations

Authorities in Puerto Morelos launch campaign to raise awareness about fireworks dangers

PUERTO MORELOS, QUINTANA ROO – The Puerto Morelos government has intensified its call for citizens to refrain from using fireworks during New Year’s Eve celebrations. The initiative aims to protect people’s health, ensure safety, and safeguard the welfare of pets, one of the groups most affected by fireworks.

Through the Municipal Civil Protection Coordination and the Municipal Secretariat General, the campaign “Fireworks Are Not a Game” is being promoted. The objective is to raise awareness about accidents, which typically increase in December, and to promote more responsible and safe festivities.

Authorities remind that a significant portion of burns and injuries during this season are linked to the handling of pyrotechnic devices, especially when they are within reach of children. A simple spark can trigger permanent damage or fires.

In Puerto Morelos, the use of fireworks also represents a danger for individuals with auditory hypersensitivity and for domestic animals, who can experience anxiety crises, disorientation, getting lost, and even death due to the explosions.

The Municipal Government joins the exhortation of the Quintana Roo Congress for the 11 municipalities of the state to promote December celebrations in an environment of peace, respect, and safety, prioritizing prevention and collective care.
