Sheinbaum’s Christmas Message from Acapulco

President Claudia Sheinbaum delivering Christmas message

ACAPULCO, GRO. From her vacation, the first since becoming president, Claudia Sheinbaum wished Mexicans a Merry Christmas and reminded that there will be no morning press conferences until next Monday.

“Due to the celebrations, there will be no People’s Morning Press Conference from Wednesday, December 24 to Friday, December 26. Merry Christmas to all the people of Mexico!” she posted on her social media.

Last Monday, in her press conference, the president announced she would take three days of rest in Acapulco after 306 morning press conferences since assuming office on October 1, 2024.

“We won’t be going to Chilpancingo… I’m going on vacation to Acapulco for 3 days, the 25th, 26th, and 27th,” she responded when asked if she could go to Chilpancingo, the capital of Guerrero, which has been ravaged by crime to the extent that “El Paseo del Pendón,” the Christmas season opening celebration, had to be guarded by National Guard soldiers.

“I will obviously be paying attention,” added the president.

In another post later, President Sheinbaum shared a video with a new message of hope to the population.

“We wish a Merry Christmas to all Mexican families. Tonight there is hope, love, and fraternity in every corner of the country. The most important things are values and love for others, for family, and for our beloved Mexico.

“Our cultural greatness nourishes us, let’s remember that the most important thing is not material possessions, but values and love for others, love for family, and love for our beloved Mexico,” stated President Sheinbaum.

These are the first vacation days for the head of the federal Executive Branch, who had only stopped working from September 2 to 4, 2024, for her honeymoon, almost a year after marrying physicist Jesús María Tarriba.

The video lasts two minutes and 13 seconds, showing the president with her husband walking through the National Palace, also appearing in her office, decorating the Christmas tree, placing poinsettias, and even congratulating a woman who is a member of the military guard.

Additionally, she assured that throughout the country there is hope, love, and fraternity.

“We give thanks to our mothers and fathers, to our grandmothers and grandfathers who taught us to resist with dignity and to love with our souls,” she said.

“Thanks also to all the girls and boys who remind us every day why it’s worth fighting. Tonight I also think of those who are far from home, those who work so others can be safe, and those who miss someone today.

“Also to our compatriots, to our Armed Forces, to police officers, healthcare workers, firefighters, transportation workers, and many others,” she added.

Sheinbaum asked that solidarity and love for Mexico give strength to Mexicans. “May the pride of being Mexican accompany us today and always,” she expressed.

Briefly, Jesús María Tarriba also commented at the end of the video: “With all our affection, we wish you the best of Christmases, may you spend it in peace and unity.”

Sheinbaum has not yet announced if she will have activities this weekend. Instead, she has confirmed press conferences on the 29th and 30th and another break until January 5th.

Last year, Sheinbaum spent the Christmas and New Year period in the National Palace.
