Police officers inspecting packages of marijuana seized during an arrest in Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Police arrested a man known as “Morelos” on Thursday after finding approximately 30 kilograms of marijuana in his vehicle during a joint operation with federal forces.

Officers from the Public Security Department’s Investigation Group, working with the Mexican Navy, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard, spotted a black Cupra car that passed their patrol vehicle on the right in a suspicious manner. They noticed several transparent packages containing green, dry vegetation resembling marijuana protruding from the back of the car.

When officers signaled the driver to stop, he ignored the commands and attempted to flee. The chase ended on Chac Mool Avenue near the Residencial Tercera Etapa neighborhood in Cancun’s supermanzana 322, where authorities blocked the vehicle’s path.

A search of the car and the driver turned up 60 transparent bags, each containing about 500 grams of the suspected marijuana, totaling roughly 30 kilograms. Police also seized two black plastic bags, two cell phones, and the vehicle.

The suspect, identified as Levi Alberto “N,” alias “Morelos,” was handed over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Drug Dealing, which will determine his legal status.
