Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A pickup truck was deliberately set on fire early Monday in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood, sparking a swift response from firefighters and an investigation by authorities.
The blaze was reported just before dawn on Avenida 10 between Calles 54 and 56, where neighbors alerted emergency services after seeing the red vehicle engulfed in flames.
Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire before it could spread to other vehicles or nearby homes. The truck suffered extensive damage, but no injuries were reported.
After putting out the flames, police cordoned off the area to allow forensic teams to collect evidence. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was started with a homemade incendiary device, commonly known as a Molotov cocktail, though officials said this would need to be confirmed by expert analysis.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the area to trace the attackers’ route and identify suspects. No arrests have been made, and the motive remains unclear. The investigation continues.
In a separate early-morning incident, a driver under the influence of alcohol crashed into a concrete wall on the federal highway near Calle 8 Norte, destroying his vehicle. The man was arrested and taken to holding cells, while his car was towed to an impound lot pending further proceedings.
