Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The municipal government of Isla Mujeres has announced a month-long program of cultural, artistic, sports, gastronomic, religious, and musical events to celebrate the island’s 176th founding anniversary from August 1 to 28, 2026.
The festivities aim to strengthen local identity and traditions while encouraging community participation. Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde invited residents and visitors to join the celebration.
The program kicks off on August 1 at 7:30 p.m. with the coronation of the Foundation Ambassador at the Municipal Plaza. Other highlights include photography exhibitions, the traditional Bajada de la Virgen and Vaquería, the Ceviche and Isleño Cocktail contests, professional wrestling matches, musical performances, Nochecitas Isleñas, a solemn session of the town council, and the Whale Shark Festival.
