José María Morelos, Quintana Roo — A man was attacked by a crocodile in a lagoon Monday afternoon and rushed to a local hospital with head injuries, authorities said.
The victim, approximately 40 years old and from the community of La Presumida, was brought to the emergency room of the hospital integral shortly after 5 p.m. Paramedics treated him at the scene and administered intravenous fluids before transporting him.
Unconfirmed reports indicate the attack occurred at the lagoon known as La Esmeralda. It is not clear what the man was doing at the time of the incident.
Crocodile attacks in the lagoon are uncommon but not unprecedented. About four years ago, a young man from the nearby town of San Diego was bitten while fishing in the same body of water.
