Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal government of Playa del Carmen, through its Secretariat of Social Justice and Citizen Participation and the Education Department, inaugurated the Interactive Educating Cities Room at the Jaime Torres Bodet Library.
The permanent space aims to promote education, culture, and civic participation in line with the principles of the International Association of Educating Cities and the Mexican Network of Educating Cities (REMCE).
Rusbel Pat Cauich, Secretary of Social Justice and Citizen Participation, led the inaugural ceremony on behalf of Mayor Estefanía Mercado. He was joined by councilor Saúl Barbosa Heredia, Education Director Félix Teh Cen, and councilors Xelha Dehesa Cortés and María Josefina Muza Simón, who reaffirmed the city council’s commitment to fostering lifelong learning, social inclusion, and comprehensive development.
The room features a permanent exhibition of miniature regional costumes from across Mexico, designed to strengthen cultural identity and preserve the country’s heritage. It also includes interactive areas focused on environmental awareness and children’s rights, using educational and recreational activities to encourage community participation.
The event drew municipal officials, education sector representatives, public library staff, civil society members, and residents, who welcomed the new space as a tool to enhance educational processes and social coexistence.
