Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — With the presence of authorities from all three levels of government and a significant institutional deployment, Municipal President Estefanía Mercado officially launched the Summer Vacation Operation 2025, aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of thousands of visitors and residents during the high season.

The ceremony took place at the Explanada del Nuevo Palacio Municipal, where the mayor emphasized that Playa del Carmen is ready to welcome national and international tourists with security, order, and hospitality, reinforcing one of the municipality’s key economic drivers: tourism.

Coordinated Efforts for Safety

"This operation is a coordinated effort with all levels of government. Protecting our beaches, streets, and tourist zones requires teamwork, planning, discipline, and above all, a commitment to service," Mercado stated.

She highlighted that Playa del Carmen is now the safest municipality in Quintana Roo, thanks to a historic investment of 1.2 billion pesos in security and the joint efforts of police forces, Civil Protection, firefighters, the State Attorney General’s Office, and federal agencies such as the Navy, Army, and National Guard.

"We don’t just say it—the data confirms it. This positive perception is the result of the daily dedication of those who protect our streets, beaches, and families," she added.

Comprehensive Security Measures

The operation includes:

  • Ground and maritime police presence
  • Assistance points in high-traffic areas such as Punta Esmeralda, Playa Mamitas, and Parque Fundadores
  • Constant monitoring with trained personnel and technology
  • Participation of over 1,200 officers from various agencies
  • Tactical units and emergency vehicles, including helicopters from the Secretariat of Citizen Security

Darwin Manuel Covarrubias Góngora, Secretary of Civil Protection, explained that the deployment includes strategic command posts capable of immediate response to emergencies, reinforcing risk prevention and safeguarding lives.

A Summer of Safety and Peace

Mayor Mercado concluded her remarks by urging responsible enjoyment of the season, assuring that municipal authorities will remain vigilant to ensure a "safe, peaceful, and unforgettable summer" for both visitors and residents.

The event ended with a symbolic procession of participating units, formally marking the start of the Summer Vacation Operation 2025—a coordinated effort reaffirming the government’s commitment to order, tranquility, and well-being for all.

Among the attendees were Guillermo Núñez Leal, State Coordinator of Civil Protection, and Raúl Tassinari, Secretary of Citizen Security, as well as military officials and representatives from the State Attorney General’s Office.

Through planning, coordination, and political will, Playa del Carmen solidifies its reputation as a secure, vibrant tourist destination ready to welcome the world.
