Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The municipal government of Playa del Carmen has established a direct communication line for citizens to anonymously report extortion and corruption, Mayor Estefanía Mercado announced.

The mayor published the phone number 984 453 33 88 on her Facebook account, noting that the line is available via WhatsApp for individuals who have been victims of alleged extortion or abuse by municipal officials.

"In Playa del Carmen, the government is here to serve the people, not to take advantage of them," the mayor wrote in her message.

The municipal leader emphasized: "Today we reinforce our commitment to transparency and honesty with a confidential WhatsApp line to report abuses and irregularities within the municipal government."

Accompanied by the new municipal treasurer, Guillermo Brahms, the mayor stated that they will not tolerate corruption, regardless of where it comes from, and that they will not allow abuses, bribes, or irregularities within the municipal government.

"We are not going to protect anyone here, we are going to protect the people. 984 453 33 88, exclusively to receive citizen reports of corruption via WhatsApp. Transformation also means cleaning up the government and putting it truly at the service of the people, because the people's money is sacred and whoever fails the people will have to face all the consequences," she affirmed.
