Motorcyclist Dies After Being Struck by Car in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A young motorcyclist died Sunday evening after being struck by a red Kia at the intersection of Constituyentes and Laak avenues in the Villas del Sol neighborhood.

According to initial reports, the rider encountered a street closed for a party and attempted to merge back onto Constituyentes Avenue, but apparently failed to take proper precautions. A red Kia traveling along the avenue, allegedly speeding, was unable to stop in time and slammed into the motorcycle, throwing the rider onto the pavement.

Neighbors rushed to help the victim, who had serious injuries and difficulty breathing. Civil Protection paramedics arrived minutes later, provided first aid and rushed him to the General Hospital under a code-red emergency.

Despite efforts by emergency personnel and hospital staff, the motorcyclist died shortly after arriving at the emergency room due to the severity of his injuries.

Municipal traffic officers cordoned off the area and carried out the corresponding procedures, including an accident reconstruction to determine responsibility. The driver of the Kia was taken into custody and turned over to the appropriate authorities, where his legal status will be determined as the investigation continues.

Authorities said they will continue gathering evidence and testimony to clarify the circumstances of the accident and formally assign responsibility.
