Playa del Carmen Civil Protection Conducts 3,000 Monthly Inspections of Businesses, Parks, and Hotels

Civil protection officials inspecting a hotel in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Civil Protection Department conducts an average of 3,000 inspections per month at businesses, parks, vacation rentals, and hotels, according to its director, Darwin Covarrubias.

Covarrubias said the inspections do not result in fines but rather observations that must be addressed within five business days.

He added that the department has made progress with local hotels, leading to a reduction in the accident rate.

Regarding the Xcaret park, Covarrubias noted that inspections have not yet begun, but once an inspection order is issued, it will take about a week to verify the entire complex.

On the screen installed by the group on the Fiscal Pier, he said that since it is a federal matter, they have requested a structural assessment to verify that both that screen and the one on the pier operated by the company NAVEGA meet all safety requirements.
