Quintana Roo, Mexico — The state is projected to close the year with a 10% increase in the number of pensions, reaching a total of 51,118, according to the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

According to data obtained via the National Transparency Platform, in 2024, 47,558 people received the social security benefit after meeting the requirements to close their work cycle.

These are mainly procedures related to old-age and retirement pensions, meaning a working population over 60 years old that is no longer able to work and requests the benefit to dedicate themselves to rest in retirement.

From this category, according to the data provided, so far in 2025, with just a couple of weeks left in the year, 25,367 people have received this pension.

Why Do These Figures Matter?

In this case, the figures remain slightly lower compared to last year because in 2024, 27,818 people received the pension under this modality; while in 2023, 25,160 received the economic benefit.

However, this figure also includes another type of pension, such as work risk pensions, related to workers who suffered serious accidents or in some cases died, a benefit that remains for their widow and minor children, which ultimately transforms into a widow’s pension.

In the southern region of the IMSS, which includes 10 states of the Mexican Republic, not only the peninsular and southeastern ones, this year the state ranks fifth among entities with the largest population that has benefited from one of these pensions.

In first place is Veracruz with 291,373 pensioners during this year. In the Yucatán Peninsula region, the state of Yucatán stands out, with 113,559 pensioners, followed by Quintana Roo with 51,118, and in third place Campeche with 33,022 people who have received this benefit.
