Cancún, Mexico — An ambulance operated by the company Cancún Medical Response collided with the entrance of Cancún General Hospital this afternoon while attempting to reverse into the facility to drop off a patient.

The unusual accident prompted a rapid response from authorities and emergency personnel after initial reports suggested potential risks to individuals in the emergency area. Further investigation confirmed that the ambulance, identified as unit number 02, had arrived at the hospital following a vehicular accident on José López Portillo Avenue, where passengers in a minibus sustained injuries.

While reversing the medical unit, the driver failed to brake in time, crashing through the hospital’s glass doors and causing structural damage to the concrete framework. Fortunately, patients, doctors, and staff in the vicinity managed to avoid injury from the shattered glass.

When questioned about the incident, the ambulance driver stated that he had mistaken the accelerator for the brake pedal. Officers from the Traffic Directorate arrived at the scene to assess liability and determine compensation for the damages to the healthcare facility.

The case remains under investigation.
