Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The DIF Playa del Carmen has received a donation of 399,770.06 pesos from OXXO’s round-up program, funds that will be used to create a multisensory stimulation room for children and adults requiring specialized therapies.
The donation comes from the “Cambio por Cambio” campaign held at OXXO stores across Quintana Roo from April to June 2026, where customers rounded up their purchases to support social causes.
Eduardo Asencio, honorary president of the DIF system in Playa del Carmen, thanked the company and the customers who participated. “This alliance means much more than a financial contribution; it reflects the shared commitment of citizens, private enterprise, and DIF to transform lives. Every peso donated will become more opportunities for children and people receiving care,” he said.
Asencio emphasized that the funds will be managed transparently and will help expand therapeutic tools at the Municipal Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center (CRIM). He also credited Mayor Estefanía Mercado for promoting partnerships between society, businesses, and institutions.
José Landero Alcántara, manager of OXXO Plaza Playa del Carmen, noted that the donation resulted from thousands of customers choosing to round up their purchases. “We want to recognize the thousands of clients who said yes to the round-up every day. This donation comes from them and shows that when society, companies, and government work together, we achieve actions that transform lives. At OXXO we will continue to be a good neighbor and strengthen these alliances for the benefit of the community,” he stated.
During the event, the top-performing stores were recognized: OXXO Ipanema (first place), OXXO IMSS Cuauhtémoc (second), OXXO Bonanza (third), OXXO Zafir (fourth), and OXXO Cruz Parlante (fifth). The donation was witnessed by Leandro Acosta, coordinator of CRIM, and Mariana Carrillo, donation coordinator of DIF Playa del Carmen.
