Cancún, Quintana Roo — More than 700 kilograms of drugs were seized Monday night in a joint operation involving state and federal forces in Cancún’s Supermanzana 101. The operation also led to the arrest of two men and the securing of a residence where firearms were additionally discovered.

Details of the Operation

According to official reports, the incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. when officers from the Secretary of Citizen Security conducted patrols in high-risk areas, accompanied by members of the Mexican Army and the Secretary of the Navy.

During the patrol along José López Portillo Avenue, authorities noticed a suspicious vehicle with two individuals inside. Upon spotting law enforcement, the suspects attempted to evade officers by making a sudden turn. The pursuit ended on 16th Street, between 135th and 137th Avenues, as the vehicle’s occupants tried to enter a residence in Block 99.

Officers conducted a preventive search of the vehicle, locating several doses of narcotics. However, it was the reaction of a K-9 unit that alerted authorities to a larger drug presence inside the property.

Discovery of Drugs and Firearms

Following this lead, officers inspected the residence, uncovering the 700-kilogram drug cache along with multiple firearms. The two suspects were arrested in flagrante delicto, and the property was secured to prevent potential retrieval attempts by criminal associates.

Both the detainees and the seized items were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, assigned to the Specialized Anti-Drug Trafficking Unit. This seizure marks one of the largest drug confiscations in Cancún so far this year.
