Chetumal, Mexico — The state capital will be the setting for a key tourism event for the Mexican southeast on September 10. The official presentation of the "Tourist Experiences of the Maya World" will take place on that day, a new product already recognized by UNESCO that seeks to strengthen the region's international profile.
Chetumal Reinforces Its Role as a Promotion Hub
The announcement was made by Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Secretary of Tourism for Quintana Roo (Sedetur), who highlighted the importance of Chetumal hosting this meeting, as it reinforces its role as a strategic point in the promotion of the cultural and natural heritage of the southeast.
The event will be attended by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, the federal Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, as well as the heads of tourism from the five states that make up the "Mundo Maya" brand (Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, Quintana Roo, and Yucatán).
The initiative seeks to integrate experiences endorsed by UNESCO, which will allow visitors to learn more closely about the historical, cultural, and natural wealth of the region through interaction with Maya communities, something that is already being done in some regions like Maya Ka'an.
Aiming to Diversify Offerings and Attract Visitors
These proposals aim to diversify the tourist offerings and attract travelers interested in authentic and sustainable experiences. Furthermore, they will be linked through the Maya Train, assured Bernardo Cueto.
With this launch, Quintana Roo and its allied Mundo Maya states take another step towards consolidating a form of tourism that values cultural heritage and opens the door to new economic development opportunities for local communities.
